Job Title:Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Overview

The Medical Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for conducting routine and specialised laboratory tests across various departments, including haematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, parasitology, and serology. The ideal candidate must be precise, ethical, and proficient in operating modern laboratory equipment in compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide range of laboratory investigations on patient samples (blood, urine, stool, etc.).
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain diagnostic equipment such as analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
  • Interpret test results accurately and communicate findings to physicians and other health professionals.
  • Maintain proper sample handling, labeling, and documentation procedures.
  • Ensure all test processes and results meet quality control standards and internal SOPs.
  • Participate in external quality assurance programs and continual professional development.
  • Comply with medical laboratory regulations as required by MLSCN, NCDC, and other health authorities.
  • Maintain laboratory hygiene, biosafety protocols, and proper waste disposal.
  • Keep accurate records of all tests, reagent usage, and maintenance logs.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognised institution.
  • Must be licensed by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-NYSC experience in a clinical or diagnostic laboratory.
  • Proficiency in laboratory software, analysers, and test equipment.
  • Good knowledge of quality assurance, infection control, and laboratory best practices.
  • Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and good communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure or with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or public holidays when required.
