Job Overview
The Head of Operations is responsible for overseeing the bank’s day-to-day operational functions,
including branch operations, back-office processing, customer service, compliance support,
transaction processing, and system efficiency. The ideal candidate will provide strategic direction,
ensure adherence to regulatory standards, and promote operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all banking operations across branches, ensuring efficient service
delivery. - Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for seamless transaction
processing and customer service. - Ensure compliance with CBN and other regulatory guidelines in all operational activities.
- Coordinate the activities of operations, customer support, IT, and treasury back-office
teams. - Monitor and evaluate operational performance, identify gaps, and implement process
improvements. - Supervise cash management activities, vault and teller operations, and reconciliation
processes. - Ensure strong internal controls are maintained to prevent fraud, errors, and financial
losses. - Support the deployment and use of core banking applications and digital platforms.
- Oversee account opening, documentation, KYC compliance, and record-keeping
processes. - Work closely with audit, risk, and compliance units to enforce policies and resolve
operational issues. - Prepare and present operational reports to executive management and the board.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking & Finance, Business Administration,
Accounting, or related field. A Master’s Degree or professional certification (e.g., ACIB,
CIBN, ICAN, CPA) is an added advantage. - 7+ years of progressive banking experience, with at least 3 years in a senior operational
role, preferably in a microfinance or retail banking environment. - Strong knowledge of banking operations, regulatory requirements, internal controls, and
process management. - Experience with core banking applications (e.g., BankOne, Temenos, Finacle, etc.).
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced
environment.
